We modify a lot of headphones here at custom cans so thought it may be useful or fun for some people if we showed some of what we do. While playing around with new mods for the DT770 I got to thinking about the ring driver in the HD800 and how it has a hole in the centre. Evan though I know it is a bad Idea, I have often wandered what would happen if you removed the centre cap of a standard driver. I knew I would probably just ruin a driver and there was only a 5% chance of anything good happening but after a mystical breakfast experience, I decided to give it a go. Don't worry, this pair won't go to waste we will be doing a driver swap on them soon
I have no experience with surface mount components but as it is currently dead, I can't really make it any worse. In this Video I find out whether it is possible to replace a many pinned surface mount socket with little or no experience.
A quick video to show how to solder a 3 pin mini xlr headphone cable. We used a REAN RT3FC connector but any 3 pin mini XLR should be roughly the same #shorts
